This week on the show, Nelson and I discuss the various strategies they’ve used to build wealth over the years. We talk about budgeting, maximizing your savings rate, and how we both embraced frugality. I point out how important it is to maximize your earnings at work, while Nelson explains why your savings rate is so important — especially when you start.

Hey there! Found your show a couple months back and really enjoyed the perspective as I’ve mostly been into growth stocks.
I sent this msg to Mr Smith on X:
Hello Mr. Smith,
I recently started listening to your podcasts over the last 2 weeks.
I have watched perhaps at least a 1/3 of them so far. I really like it cause I’ve been interested in growth mostly. It’s an exciting new perspective.
But i just turned 40 in August. Looking to make retirement as my main priority. Dividends seem like a nice way to round out the portfolio. So I think I’m going to start adding.
Anywho, it seems you guys are looking for topics and questions from listeners for the next season.
I’d like to listen to you talk in depth on stocks you are watching but waiting to pull the trigger on. Or just stocks that you’ve got a price target/kill zone where you will buy.
You speak a lot about 52 week low.
But for example I’m watching enbridge as it is sort of 2/3s of the way there. But when? When is the time?? Do you wait till it’s within 90% of the low or is 2/3 good? Someone I read on Reddit said $66 is a good price. Idk?? lol
Anyways, would love to hear more about present stocks you’re looking to acquire as mentioned above what you’re watching, what prices are getting close.
Anyways, it’s been fun learning a different perspective. I got a dividend stock tab on my yahoo finance now. Pretty much all stocks you’ve spoken about highly.
Hope this all makes sense, btw I’m in YEG also 🙂
The end.
So ya would really like it if you would elaborate on your 52 wk low as you speak about it often. I’m sure you aren’t buying exactly at the 52 low exact price so some methodology would be great. I’m sure other listeners are curious too.
And again maybe touching on the current events each episode before getting into topics and how you think they are or will affect the dividend stocks you own or at looking at (or even you think other dividend investors are interested in?).
Again love the show and would love to listen to you two go back and forth on some of these topics.
Hi K,
Thank you very much for your support with our podcast.
We use 52 week low as a reference on whether we’d want to buy the stock or not. Our logic is that ideally we want to buy a specific stock when the price is close to 52 week low. But of course, it may not always get there. Sometimes with setting a buy price is that the share price never gets there and you may miss a good opportunity to purchase an excellent stock for the long term. It may be a good topic for one of the podcast episodes.
